School Nurse Notes
A Note From the School Nurse
Summer vacation is quickly approaching and I wanted to send out a few reminders to parents...

  • For parents of rising 6th graders...They are required to receive an updated Tdap vaccine prior to entry into the 6th grade.  Please provide proof of vaccination by the first day of school in August. The vaccine is available through most physicians offices and through the Watauga County Health Department.  The vaccine is free, however your physician may charge an administration fee. Please call me at (828)264-8481 if you have any questions.  There is a link on the right to the Immunize North Carolina Web site for additional information regarding immunizing your child.
  • If your child has currently has medication at school, please make arrangements to pick this medication up prior to or on the last day of this school year.  All medications must be picked up by a parent or other designee.  Medications cannot be transported with the child.  If you are unable to pick up medications by the last day of school please contact us so that arrangements can be made to pick up medications at another time.  Any left over medications will be disposed of.
  • Planning on having fun in the sun.....When you are outside, protect you and your family from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV rays are emitted by the sun and cause your skin to tan, turn red, or even burn.  To protect yourself and your family from the suns rays you should use a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or greater.  Remember to reapply often, especially after swimming or if you are sweating alot.  Always wear sunglasses along with a wide brim hat to protect your eyes, ears, neck, and face.
Have a wonderful summer vacation! I look forward to seeing you next fall!
